The press will publish the first installment in the series, The Time Travel Twins, co-written with Tad Safran, in late summer. Little, Brown describes the novel as a “revolutionary, action-packed adventure.”

The novel will follow twins Pew and Basket Church, abandoned by their parents and living in an orphanage, who use a time travel talisman to embark on a quest to the 18th century, where they encounter George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.

“History, mystery, humor, and adventure collide in this delightfully clever romp that heralds the arrival of James Patterson’s newest blockbuster series,” Little, Brown said.

Patterson, one of the country’s most prolific authors, has written for younger readers before. His series including Maximum Ride, Daniel X, Witch & Wizard, and Confessions.

“I’ve always said that the hardest job with kids is to get them in the habit of reading,” Patterson said in a statement. “Like all of my children’s books, the goal of The Time Travel Twins is for a kid to finish it and say, ‘Please, give me another book.’ With lots of action, adventure, humor, a terrific story, and fun trivia, this novel makes it easy for kids to want to pick it up, read every word, and eagerly reach for another book.”

The Time Travel Twins is slated for publication on Sept. 9.
