Tony and Emmy Award–winning actor Jodie Comer will narrate the audiobook of Suzie Miller’s novel, Prima Facie, after an acclaimed turn performing in the play that inspired it.

Miller’s one-woman play premiered in 2019 her in native Australia. After a stint in London’s West End, it came to Broadway in 2023 starring Comer, who won a Tony for best actress in a play with her performance. Prima Facie tells the story of Tessa Ensler, a hard-charging lawyer who is sexually assaulted.

After Comer’s recognition in the play, Miller said, the actor was a natural pick for the audiobook.

“[Comer’s] incomparable talent, passion, and conviction were instrumental to making the play a success and I know she will bring the same dedication to storytelling to bring Tessa to life in the novel,” Miller said in a statement released on Thursday. “I couldn’t think of a better person to read the audiobook.”

Comer added that “it has been an absolute joy to return to Tessa’s story whilst recording this audiobook. My hope is that it will reach the widest number of people, perhaps who weren’t able to see the play.”

In a starred review, Kirkus called Prima Facie “a rawly moving debut filled with insights into the legal system and its shortcomings.”

The print and audiobook versions of the novel will be released simultaneously by Henry Holt and Macmillan Audio on Jan. 30.
