Katie Holmes is bringing Kathleen Tessaro’s novel Rare Objects to the big screen, Variety reports.
The actor will star in, co-write, co-produce, and direct the adaptation. It will be the third film Holmes has directed, after All We Had and Alone Together, which is scheduled to be released next year.
Tessaro’s 2016 novel follows a young Irish immigrant living in Boston during the Great Depression, who takes a job at an antiques store with a wealthy clientele. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “This novel meanders more than the Odyssey to which it frequently pays homage.”
The film adaptation will be written by Phaedon A. Papadopoulos (Terri, Another Earth), and produced by Holmes, Jordan Beckerman (Separation), Jesse Korman (Chick Fight), Jordan Yale Levine (Becky), Shaun Sanghani (The Fallout), and Mark Maxey (Up to Snuff).
“We’re thrilled to be producing this timely and timeless story with Katie,” Yale Levine and Beckerman told Variety. “It’s a perfect example of the kind of film that we want to make under our Lafayette Pictures banner, and Katie is such an extraordinary talent both in front of and behind the camera. We really can’t wait for everyone to see her vision with this film come to life.”
