Novels by Emma Donoghue and Emily St. John Mandel are among the 14 works of fiction on the longlist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, one of Canada’s most prestigious literary awards, the CBC reports.

Donoghue made the list for The Pull of the Stars and Mandel for The Glass Hotel; both were also published in the U.S. this year.

Three story collections were nominated for the award: David Bergen’s Here the Dark, Kaie Kellough’s Dominoes at the Crossroads, and Souvankham Thammavongsa’s How to Pronounce Knife. Bergen is a previous winner of the Giller Prize.

For the first time, a graphic novel made the Giller longlist: Seth’s Clyde Fans. In previous years, graphic novels were not eligible for the prize.

Other books to be nominated include Lynn Coady’s Watching You Without Me, Francesca Ekwuyasi’s Butter Honey Pig Bread, Thomas King’s Indians on Vacation, and Eva Crocker’s All I Ask.

The Giller Prize was first awarded in 1994, to M.G. Vassangi’s The Book of Secrets. Previous winners have included Margaret Atwood’s Alias Grace, Mordecai Richler’s Barney’s Version, Esi Edugyan’s Half-Blood Blues, and Madeleine Thien’s Do Not Say We Have Nothing.

The award comes with a cash prize of $76,000. The shortlist for the Giller Prize will be unveiled on Oct. 5, with the winner named on Nov. 9.
