Lev Grossman, the author of the popular Magicians trilogy of books that inspired the hit Syfy network television series, is turning his attention to a new audience: young readers.
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish Grossman’s The Silver Arrow, his first book for children, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The book tells the story of Kate and Tom, two young siblings who lead humdrum lives until Kate is given “a colossal steam locomotive called the Silver Arrow” as a birthday present from their mysterious uncle.
“Kate and Tom’s parents want to send it right back where it came from,” Little, Brown says. “But Kate and Tom have other ideas—and so does the Silver Arrow—and soon they’re off to distant lands along magical rail lines in the company of an assortment of exotic animals who, it turns out, can talk.”
The publisher calls the book a “thrilling fantasy adventure [that] will not only entertain young readers but inspire them to see the beautiful, exciting, and precious world around them with new eyes.”
Grossman’s fantasy trilogy for adults, composed of The Magicians, The Magician King and The Magician’s Land, proved to be a hit for the author, and the television adaptation is currently in its fifth season.
The Silver Arrow is slated for publication on Sept. 1.
