Christie Brinkley will tell the story of her life and career in a new memoir.
Harper Influence will publish the supermodel’s Uptown Girl in the spring. The press describes the book as “the brave account of a life lived at full throttle and on full display.”
Brinkley was studying art in Paris when she was discovered by photographer Errol Sawyer. She signed with Elite Model Management and quickly became one of America’s most recognizable supermodels, signing a contract with cosmetics company CoverGirl and appearing on the covers of magazines including Glamour, Vogue, and the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
She made a memorable appearance in the music video for musician Billy Joel’s 1983 hit “Uptown Girl,” about a high-class woman who slums it with a “backstreet guy.” Brinkley and Joel married in 1985 and divorced in 1994.
Her memoir, Harper says, will cover “Brinkley’s most formative years, including the betrayal she experienced by her biological father as a child, her lifelong passion for art, her whirlwind career, her four tumultuous marriages—including her heartbreaking divorce from Billy Joel—and the harrowing experiences that almost cut her life short.”
“I wrote Uptown Girl to inspire readers to create the life they want, which is what I’ve always tried to do, not through fortune or fame, but by saying yes to adventure and trying to find the magic in every moment, no matter how big or how small,” Brinkley said in a statement.
Uptown Girl is scheduled for publication on April 29.
