Liza Minnelli will tell the story of her life and career in a new memoir.
Grand Central Publishing has acquired the book from the legendary singer and actor, the press announced in a news release, saying that the memoir, written in collaboration with singer Michael Feinstein, “promises to capture her vibrant and irreverent voice.”
Minnelli, the daughter of actor Judy Garland and filmmaker Vincente Minnelli, was born in Los Angeles in 1946. She began acting and singing as a child, winning a Tony Award at 19 for her performance in the musical Flora the Red Menace. She was also a teenager when she released her first albums, Liza! Liza! and It Amazes Me.
In 1972, she starred as Sally Bowles in Bob Fosse’s film adaptation of the musical Cabaret and won an Oscar and Golden Globe for her performance. That same year saw the release of her now-legendary television concert Liza With a “Z”. In her later years, she has continued to sing and act, notably guest-starring on the sitcom Arrested Development.
Grand Central says that Minnelli’s memoir will cover “her high-octane marriages and struggles with substance abuse” and will reveal “the raw and triumphant experiences that have solidified her status as one of the most compelling performers ever in entertainment history.”
“Over dinner one night, I decided, it’s my own damn story…I’m gonna share it with you because of all the love you’ve given me,” Minnelli said in a statement. “So, until this book arrives, know that I’m laughing, safe in every way, surrounded by loved ones, and excited to see what’s right around the curve of life. Kids, wait ’til you hear this!”
Minnelli’s memoir, as yet untitled, is scheduled for publication in the spring of 2026.
