Tom Selleck will tell the story of his life and career in a new memoir.

Dey Street Books will publish the actor’s You Never Know next year, the press announced in a news release. It describes the book as “frank, funny and open-hearted.” It is written with Ellis Henican.

Selleck, who was raised near Los Angeles, played basketball and baseball for the University of Southern California before dropping out to pursue acting. He appeared in several commercials and on the show The Rockford Files before being cast as private detective Thomas Magnum on the series Magnum P.I.

The show, which ran from 1980 to 1988 was a huge hit, making the mustachioed actor a worldwide sex symbol. He went on to star in films including Three Men and a Baby and An Innocent Man and currently plays the New York City police commissioner in the series Blue Bloods.

In the book, Dey Street says, “the famed actor brings readers on his uncharted but serendipitous journey to the top in Hollywood, his temptations and distractions, his misfires and mistakes and, over time, his well-earned success.”

In a statement, Selleck said, “From the USC basketball court, to a happy accident, to discovering and then embracing the work I love. It’s a long bumpy road with some singles, some home runs, and a whole lot of strikeouts. I figure it’s time to share the ride.”

You Never Know is slated for publication on May 7, 2024.
