Journalist Juan Williams will revisit the topic of civil rights in a new book coming in 2025.
Simon & Schuster will publish Williams’ New Prize for These Eyes: The Rise of America’s Second Civil Rights Movement in the winter, the press announced in a news release. It describes the book as “a forward-looking call to action, urging Americans to get in touch with the progress made and hurdles yet to be overcome.”
The book is a follow-up to Williams’ 1987 bestseller, Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years, 1954–1965, which was a companion to the Emmy Award–winning PBS documentary series Eyes on the Prize.
Williams is a former contributor to the Washington Post and NPR. He was terminated from the public radio network in 2010 after appearing on the Fox News show The O’Reilly Factor and saying that when he sees Muslims on airplanes, he gets “worried” and “nervous.”
He is currently a political analyst for Fox News. His previous books include Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary;Muzzled: The Assault on Honest Debate; and “What the Hell Do You Have To Lose?”: Trump’s War on Civil Rights.
In the new book, Simon & Schuster says, Williams “brilliantly traces the arc of this new civil rights era, from Obama to Charlottesville to January 6th and a Confederate flag in the Capitol. An essential read for activists, historians, and anyone passionate about America’s future, New Prize for These Eyes is more than a recounting of history.”
New Prize for These Eyes is scheduled for publication on Jan. 14, 2025.
