Publisher Scholastic and author Suzanne Collins have revealed the cover of the latest Hunger Games novel.

The cover image of Sunrise on the Reaping was unveiled on the Today show and on the social platform X. The book is purple, with a depiction of a golden snake and bird linked together over a shining sun.

David Levithan of Scholastic said, “Artist Tim O’Brien has created yet another iconic Hunger Games cover—this one symbolically exploring one of the central themes of the series: how conflicting forces can be connected by their common nature, the songbird and the snake springing from the same source."

Collins’ Hunger Games series of young adult science fiction novels debuted in 2008 with The Hunger Games, which was followed by Catching Fire in 2009 and Mockingjay in 2010. The novels quickly became a publishing phenomenon, and were all adapted into hit films. In 2020, she published a prequel to the original trilogy, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which also spawned a movie.

Sunrise on the Reaping is also a prequel to the first three books, taking place 24 years before the series. It follows Haymitch Abernathy, who was a mentor to Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the protagonists of the original trilogy.

Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled for publication on March 18, 2025.
