Emily Henry will return to bookstore shelves in 2024.
The bestselling author of novels including Beach Read and Book Lovers announced in her newsletter that her next book, Funny Story, will be published in the spring by Berkley.
“A new book never feels real until I tell you about it,” Henry wrote in her Substack newsletter. “Which means I’m always both unbearably excited and even less bearably terrified to finally introduce you to the characters and story that have been consuming me for the last year.”
Henry made her literary debut in 2016 with the young adult novel The Love That Split the World. Four years later, her first novel for adults, Beach Read, was published, and hit the bestseller lists, as did her follow-up romances, People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers, and, most recently, Happy Place.
Funny Story, which Berkley describes as “a shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common,” follows a woman whose fiancé leaves her and who might be falling in love with her new roommate.
“This is a book about how so many of the best parts of life only happen after everything’s gone to shit,” Henry wrote in her newsletter. “How the best days are often the ones you didn’t plan and the best stories are sometimes the ones you didn’t used to be able to tell without crying.”
Funny Story is scheduled for publication on April 23, 2024.
