Nicholas Sparks talked about his latest book, Counting Miracles, on NBC Nightly News.
Sparks’ novel, published in September by Random House, follows Tanner, a U.S. Army Ranger who travels to North Carolina in search of the father he never knew. While there, he meets Kaitlyn, a doctor raising a child on her own.
Asked by NBC correspondent Kate Snow about his new novel, Sparks said, “Well, it’s Nicholas Sparks, right? You got a little romantic element in there.”
Snow asked if there are plans to adapt Counting Miracles for the screen, noting that 11 of his books have been made into movies (perhaps most notably The Notebook, Sparks’ debut novel, which was adapted into a blockbuster film directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling).
“Amazon has bought the rights, and Alan Ritchson, the guy who plays Reacher [on the Amazon series based on Lee Child’s novels], will play Tanner, so that’s exciting,” Sparks said.
Snow asked Sparks what’s next for him, to which he replied, “I always tell people that I’m going to continue to write, most likely, as long as I have a story worth telling. I’m always attempting to write that one book—OK, that’s it. Now you can retire. And I’m still in search of that.”
