Eight thrillers by novelist Gregg Hurwitz could be headed to the big screen under a deal with the Paramount Players film label.
Hurwitz’s publicist announced in a news release that Paramount Players had optioned the novels, all part of his Marked Man series of books, with the goal of producing “lower-budgeted, modern noir thrillers to be adapted by a diverse group of up-and-coming filmmakers.”
“These thrillers are about ordinary men and women finding extraordinary strength within themselves and our goal is to connect these stories with screenwriters who are early in their own journey to the exceptional,” Hurwitz said.
The optioned novels include Do No Harm, one of Hurwitz’s first novels, as well as Don’t Look Back, the most recent installment in the series. The films will be produced by Hurwitz and Scott Frank, known for his work on the Emmy-winning series The Queen’s Gambit.
“There is no talent I admire more than Scott Frank and no one I’d be happier to partner with on the adaptations of these books,” Hurwitz said. “I’m grateful to Paramount Players for giving us this opportunity.”
Hurwitz echoed that sentiment on Twitter, saying he was “excited” to be working with the producer.
“Now and then a writer lucks into a deal that promises pure joy and fun,” he tweeted. “Can’t wait to get going.”
Can't convey how excited I am to collaborate with Scott Frank on this series of films based on my books. Now and then a writer lucks into a deal that promises pure joy and fun. Can't wait to get going. https://t.co/SNPZUC5vps pic.twitter.com/By2zFuLQVI
