Tony Award–nominated actor Phillipa Soo will star in the film adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2016 novel, One True Loves, Variety reports.
Soo, best known for her critically acclaimed turn as Eliza Hamilton in the blockbuster Broadway musical Hamilton, has joined the cast of the project, along with Canadian actor Simu Liu, who stars in the forthcoming Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Australian actor Luke Bracey, who’s been in films such as Hacksaw Ridge and the 2015 remake of Point Break.
Reid’s novel follows a woman who believes her husband was killed in a helicopter crash and who falls in love with an old friend. She later learns that her husband survived the crash.
The film is set to be directed by Andy Fickman, who has helmed the movies Race to Witch Mountain and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Deadline reports that the screenplay will be written by Reid and her husband, Alex Jenkins Reid; the couple will also serve as executive producers.
The film is one of a few adaptations of Reid’s books that are in the works. Hulu is adapting her just-released Malibu Rising as a television series, while Amazon has ordered a miniseries adaptation of her novel Daisy Jones and the Six. Additionally, a drama series based on Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is in the works from television channel Freeform.
