Reese Witherspoon has selected Christie Tate’s Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life as the latest pick for her popular book club.
The actress made the announcement on Instagram, writing, “Have you ever read a book that made you want to HUG the author? Every page of this incredible memoir...had me thinking ‘I wish I had read this book when I was 25. It would have helped me so much!’”
Tate’s memoir, published earlier this month, tells the story of her experiences with group therapy. A reviewer for Kirkus called it “a moving account of one woman’s attempts to find love and stability.”
“This book is a testament to the power of human connection,” Witherspoon said. “We need each other through the good times and the bad. Please read this book with a group of friends you cherish.”
On Instagram, Tate wrote, “Thank you to Reese Witherspoon for amplifying stories by women. And for including Group in your book club. I’m over the moon with gratitude.”
While Witherspoon tends to favor fiction for her book club, she has selected nonfiction titles in the past, such as Glennon Doyle’s Untamed, Eve Rodsky’s Fair Play, and Susan Orlean’s The Library Book.
