Jean Hanff Korelitz's forthcoming novel, The Latecomer, will be adapted for television, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Production company Made Up Stories and producer Kirsten Campo (The Killing, The L Word: Generation Q) are behind the planned series.
Korelitz’s novel, scheduled for publication on May 31 by Celadon, tells the story of a woman, the mother of troubled adult triplets, who decides to have another child. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “A bit slow in the middle section but on balance, a satisfyingly twisty tale rooted in complex characterizations.”
Korelitz will serve as an executive producer of the series, with Campo, Bruna Papandrea (Gone Girl, Nine Perfect Strangers), Steve Hutensky (The Human Stain, The Nightingale), and Casey Haver (Tell Me Your Secrets).
Korelitz’s 2014 novel, You Should Have Known, was adapted for a David E. Kelley miniseries, The Undoing, in 2020. And last month, it was reported that Academy Award–winning actor Mahershala Ali had joined the cast of The Plot, a planned Hulu show based on Korelitz’s 2020 novel of the same name.
“A novel is the product of a single creator, so it’s never a simple thing to entrust it to others, but I know that The Latecomer is in the best of all possible hands, and I can’t wait to see it come to life,” Korelitz said.
