Another Taylor Jenkins Reid novel is getting a screen adaptation.
The author’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo will form the basis of a film from Netflix, Deadline reports.
Reid’s 2017 novel tells the story of an aging, reclusive movie star who selects an obscure magazine reporter to interview her about her life and career. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “Reid’s heroine reveals her darkest secrets as if she were wiping off makeup at the end of the night—a celebration of human frailty that speaks to the Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor in us all.”
The film will be adapted by Liz Tigelaar, whose previous writing credits include episodes of Nashville, Bates Motel, and Little Fires Everywhere.
Evelyn Hugo will be the second adaptation of a novel from Reid to be written by Tigelaar, who is also adapting Malibu Rising as a television series for Hulu.
Two other adaptations of Reid’s books are in the works. Daisy Jones & the Six is being adapted as an Amazon series starring Riley Keough, Sebastian Chacon, and Sam Claflin; and One True Loves is being made into a movie featuring actors Phillipa Soo, Simu Liu, and Tom Everett Scott.
