Lisa Barr’s forthcoming novel Woman on Fire is headed to the big screen, with Sharon Stone set to star, Deadline reports.

The Oscar-nominated actor (Basic Instinct, Casino) will also produce the movie.

Barr’s novel, scheduled for publication on March 1, follows a young reporter on the trail of an expressionist painting that Nazis purloined decades earlier. A critic for Kirkus praised Barr’s portrayal of the main characters, but wrote, “That interest flags whenever the torch is passed to the more decorative, blander characters. This novel does not do subtle.”

Barr is the author of two previous novels, Fugitive Colors and The Unbreakables.

Stone is currently starring in another literary adaptation, the television series The Flight Attendant, based on Chris Bohjalian’s 2018 novel. She’s also the author of a book, the 2021 memoir The Beauty of Living Twice.

Barr shared news of the adaptation on Instagram, writing, “That incredible moment when the plane lands…and you open your phone up to THIS! @sharonstone—You are a Goddess—brilliant, talented, beautiful—THE ULTIMATE Woman On Fire. I am so honored and thrilled that you read my book (an ARC!) that I sent your way…and fell in love with my story and characters—I am over the moon excited to join you on this new journey!!”

“I am ‘verklempt’ as my Grandma Rachel would say—overcome with emotion and gratitude,” she concluded.
