Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline will star in a film adaptation of Ann Leary’s novel The Good House, coming to American theaters this fall, Deadline reports.
The movie has been picked up by entertainment companies Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions, and will premiere in multiplexes on Sept. 30.
Leary’s novel, published by St. Martin’s in 2013, tells the story of Hildy, an alcoholic 60-year-old Massachusetts real estate agent who befriends a client who’s cheating on her husband. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus wrote, “Despite getting a little preachy toward the end, Leary has largely achieved a genuinely funny novel about alcoholism.”
Weaver, known for her roles in films like Alien and Working Girl, will play Hildy in the film, while Kline, who starred with her in The Ice Storm, plays Frank, the ex-boyfriend with whom Hildy recently restarted a relationship.
Other cast members include Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Morena Baccarin (Firefly), Rebecca Henderson (A Simple Wedding), and Beverly D’Angelo (Coal Miner’s Daughter).
The film is written by Maya Forbes (A Dog’s Journey), Wallace Wolodarsky (Monsters vs. Aliens), and Thomas Bezucha (The Family Stone). Forbes and Wolodarsky direct.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate,” Forbes and Wolodarsky told Deadline. “We consistently love the movies they release. They are terrific partners for this film.”
