Kirsten Miller’s The Change is the latest pick for the Good Morning America book club.

Miller’s novel, published Tuesday by William Morrow, tells the story of three Long Island women who develop mysterious powers in their middle age. “Crime fiction, superpower fantasy, and sharp satire about sexism and ageism mesh for a satisfying read,” a reviewer for Kirkus said of the book.

Miller made a video appearance on the morning show, saying, “I like to think of it as a feel-good feminist revenge fantasy with witches. It follows three women who have reached a certain age and discover they’ve developed some unexpected powers.”

Miller is best known as a writer of children’s and young adult fiction. Her previous books include the three novels in her popular Kiki Strike series, Inside the Shadow City, The Empress’s Tomb, and The Darkness Dwellers, and a series of children’s books co-written with actor Jason Segel.

The announcement of Miller’s book as the latest GMA pick was delayed by one day as the morning show was covering the leaked Supreme Court opinion draft that indicated Roe v. Wade might be overturned.

Miller addressed that on Instagram, writing, “For the record, I wish the timing WASN’T right for a feminist revenge fantasy. What happened yesterday was a nightmare many of us have seen coming for a very long time—and yet it still took me by surprise.…The time for kicking ass has come.”
