The latest pick for the Good Morning America book club is Yomi Adegoke’s The List.

Adegoke’s novel, published Tuesday by Morrow/HarperCollins, follows a journalist whose fiance’s name appears on a viral list of men who are alleged to have committed bad behavior. A critic for Kirkus praised the novel as “a well-crafted, timely response to the myriad anxieties of navigating life in 2023.”

Journalist Deborah Roberts announced the selection on GMA, saying, “It is right on the pulse of our world today. We all know that social media has forever changed the way we live our lives, sometimes helping expose truths, sometimes helping to hide them. This book, I have to tell you, takes a searing look at all of that.”

The List is being developed as a television series by Max, the BBC and A24. In an interview with NPR, Adegoke addressed the adaptation, saying, “I think I'm excited to see the different conversations it will foster. I actually think people deal slightly better, maybe, with problematic, complicated characters on screen. It's slightly easier to empathize with them and get in their heads.”

Adegoke announced the news of her book’s selection for the book club on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “A very big 'pinch me' moment: my debut novel #TheList is #GMABookClub pick for October.…Thank you so much @GMA—looking forward to discussing it on the show this week!”
