Beyoncé’s mom is heading out on a tour of her own.
Tina Knowles, mother of pop stars Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, announced a nine-city tour to promote her memoir, Matriarch, which is scheduled for publication by One World on April 22. The fashion designer and philanthropist will kick off the tour on April 30 in Washington, D.C., at an event moderated by former first lady and fellow memoirist Michelle Obama.
Other stops include Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, New Orleans, Toronto, Chicago, New York, and London. Moderators for those dates have not been announced.
“I’m so excited to take Matriarch on the road and extend the conversation beyond the pages,” Knowles said in a statement. “Storytelling has always been a part of who I am—something I learned from my mother—and now, at 71, I finally understand who I truly am. This journey has been about strength motherhood, family pride, and identity, and I hope these conversations help others embrace their own stories and celebrate the power of knowing what we deserve.”
Announcing the book last fall, Knowles told the Associated Press that she was moved to write the memoir as a way to motivate the next generation of women. “I am calling this book Matriarch because what inspires me is the wisdom that women pass on to each other, generation to generation—and the inner wisdom we long to uncover in ourselves,” she said.
Knowles will have some familial competition while on the road: Beyoncé kicks off the stadium tour for her album Cowboy Carter on April 28, a week after Matriarch’s publication.
