Apple TV+ has released a trailer for its limited series adaptation of Laura Dave’s The Last Thing He Told Me.
Dave’s novel, published in 2021 by Simon & Schuster, follows Hannah, a furniture maker, whose husband, Owen, disappears, leaving a note asking his wife to protect his teenage daughter, Bailey. A critic for Kirkus called the book “light on suspense but still a solid page-turner.”
The trailer opens with Hannah, played by Jennifer Garner, sharing a kiss with Owen, portrayed by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Later, a girl approaches Hannah, giving her a message from Owen that reads “PROTECT HER.”
In another scene, Bailey (Angourie Rice) asks Hannah, “Where’s my dad?” and shows her stepmother a bag filled with money. It ends with scenes of Hannah and Bailey in an airplane and in a pickup truck that looks like it’s being followed.
The Last Thing He Told Me is directed by Olivia Newman (Where the Crawdads Sing), with the pilot episode written by Josh Singer (First Man). The series’ executive producers include Newman, Singer, and Reese Witherspoon, who previously selected Dave’s novel as a pick for her popular book club. Dave and Singer are credited as the show’s creators.
Other cast members include Aisha Tyler (Criminal Minds), Augusto Aguilera (Promised Land), and John Harlan Kim (The Librarians).
The Last Thing He Told Me is scheduled to premiere on April 14.
