The Vox Book Club is turning its attention to Curtis Sittenfeld and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The club has selected Sittenfeld’s novel Rodham as its latest pick. The book imagines what would have happened if Hillary Rodham had never married Bill Clinton. A reviewer for Kirkus called it “pleasurable wish fulfillment for Hillary fans.”
Vox’s Constance Grady called the book “a juicy, scandalous read.”
“But because this is Vox and we have access to some of the most detail-oriented politics nerds on the planet, we’re going to have a little extra fun with Rodham,” Grady added. “We’re going to bring in some special Vox experts to help us fact-check Rodham’s politics and put everything into context, both as a piece of alternate political history and as a work of political Real Person Fiction.”
The format for this month’s book club will be slightly different from previous ones, Vox said, moving away from the traditional format in which books are discussed section by section. The discussion of Rodham will feature two “special Vox guest star[s]” who will “approach the book from different angles.”
The Vox Book Club debuted in April with N.K. Jemisin’s The City We Became. Other picks have included Donna Tartt’s The Secret History and William Goldman’s The Princess Bride.
The book club’s discussion of Rodham will kick off July 10, with another discussion scheduled two weeks after that. It will culminate in a virtual live event on July 30.
